Her love of beauty revealed itself at a young age; we’re thankful she accepted her friend’s invitation to attend a beauty therapy class. She had no way of knowing where that decision would lead. In honor of Women’s History Month, we created a limited blog series, Women Who Changed the Industry. Though March is over, we’re excited to continue this series. Our PMU community is full of amazing, inspiring women like Dixie Medford, the founder of Classic Beauty Concepts, a former President of the SPCP, and an essential part of the PMU community for thirty years. She additionally founded the Texas Institute of Permanent Cosmetics. Dixie has expertise in the fields of permanent and corrective cosmetics and skincare procedures. Her passion, skill, and knowledge earned her multiple features including ABC's 20/20 and FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth. She’s achieved various honors, such as winning “Business Woman of the Year” in 2003 and again in 2006 by the President’s Business Advisory Council. She’s gained experience as a registered Laser Safety Officer where she instructs dermatologists. In addition to being a business owner and prominent permanent makeup artist, she’s worked diligently as a certified instructor for Derma-Medical Institute, Me-Chi International, and TDLR for the State of Texas.

The collection rose to our top-selling ranks, with PMU artists raving about beautiful results. Having recently celebrated the first anniversary of the collection, we are covering everything these permanent eyeliner pigments provide.

In today’s post, we have the privilege of featuring Shay Danielle. Beyond her beautiful work, you may know her through her online programs. Shay is the founder of Shay Danielle Academy Online. She’s a gifted PMU artist as well as a master microblading and permanent makeup instructor. Shay translates her expertise in the cosmetic tattooing industry into creating a lineup of programs from world-renowned trainers. Our blog series, Women Who Changed the Industry, was created to highlight a few of the extraordinary individuals in our industry and embrace the history of permanent makeup. Darlene Story is the founder and president of Li Pigments. She majored in Business and Marketing at William Paterson University in New Jersey. Before starting her own business she was a Director of Sales & Marketing, responsible for selling permanent cosmetic product lines to medical professionals. At the time, permanent cosmetic procedures were done by physicians and rarely executed by permanent makeup artists. She was motivated by helping spread awareness and knowledge about aesthetics and preventing cross-contamination during permanent makeup procedures. She went on to create a line of pigments and detailed usage literature to make it easier for individuals to understand colors, color theory, undertones, and other crucial aspects of PMU.

For Women's History Month we're featuring interviews with prominent permanent makeup artists who have helped shape our community and added to our history. Robin Pels has nearly three decades of experience with expertise in design, art, and color theory. Her mission for every client is to provide stunning, natural results. Robin believes a crucial step in the permanent makeup process is the client consultations because that helps establish a clear understanding of every client’s expectations.

Having been in the PMU industry for seven years, she considers herself fortunate to have trained with some of the world’s best artists. Her clients describe her PMU artistry as gentle and exceptionally skilled and often note their results have changed their lives. Many make travel plans to see her as she has built a reputation around her standard of work. She is known for her warm and welcoming nature and her dedication to perfection when it comes to her client’s results. Elizabeth Finch-Howell is an esteemed teacher and leader in the permanent makeup industry. She previously served as president and ethics chair for the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals. She has been manufacturing pigments, which are now used globally, since 1989. Elizabeth specializing in scar camouflaging. In 1992, she earned the prestigious credentials as the Director of the Department of Permanent Cosmetics at Saint Barnabas Hospital, the first hospital in the country to have a department for permanent makeup treatments.
